Mrs. Heidi Smith teaches first grade. She is thankful that biblical training is integrated throughout the curriculum at HCA. “We talk about God in the Bible lesson, but also in math, phonics, social studies, science, and all the other subjects,” she shares. “This goes a long way in helping the students to understand that God wants to be in every part of our lives.”
What do you love most about Highlands?
“I love that my children get a top-notch education that mirrors what my husband and I are teaching them at home.”
Why do you like teaching at Highlands?
“I know without a doubt that God brought me to Highlands. He opened so many doors along the way, in ways that could only have been His doing. He confirms to me every day that I am right where he wants me through other staff members, parents, and students.”
How do you make a spiritual impact on your students?
“I share the gospel with them and teach them biblical truths. I hope that they are learning spiritual truths to last a lifetime. I am not just teaching my students about God; I have a relationship with Him and live out my spiritual walk in the classroom. I try to be real with them. I pray they will see Jesus in me.”
What is something unique that you bring to your classroom to help shape the learning experiences of your students?
“I am very creative. I see difficulties in the classroom as a challenge to be creative. It has served me and my students well in that I usually excitedly take on challenges, and good attitude goes a long way.”
What do you think sets HCA apart from other schools?
“I think the love of the teachers and staff for the students and families sets HCA apart from other schools. In my experience, the teachers and staff have gone out of their way to do right by the students and families at our school. I believe this is because of their love for the Lord and then their love for the HCA community.”
