Meet Your Administrators

Ken.Lopez crMr. Ken Lopez, Headmaster, was born in Kansas City, Missouri. His wife, Robbin, whom he met in college, taught at Highlands for 25 years. Their three daughters (Leah, Bethany, and Amy) all graduated from HCA and Liberty University. Mr. Lopez enjoys playing golf, teaching adult Bible classes, spending time with his grandchildren, and taking their beagle for walks. Mr. Lopez shares, “I am blessed to have been in Christian education for 40 years and to have experienced all the wonderful things God has done at HCA.” I am always excited about a new school year, especially as we celebrate 50 years of God’s grace at Highlands Christian Academy!”

 

 

 

 

 

Dr.James.Virtue crDr. Jim Virtue, Staff Development Director, grew up in Northwestern Illinois on a dairy farm. He has been married to his wife, Linda, for 42 years and has two grown children, Deanna and David. Dr. Virtue enjoys spending time with his family, reading, and teaching. His goal is to read a book every month. He teaches in the School of Education for Liberty University Online and in the Religion Department of Trinity International University. “I have enjoyed my  time at Highlands,” Dr. Virtue shares. “I look forward to continue working with the teachers  in an effort to continue improving the quality of our educational program.”

 

 

 

 

 


Larry.Smith crMr. Larry Smith,
 High School Principal, grew up in upstate New York. Mr. Smith and his wife, Monika (an HCA teacher), have three grown children who all graduated from Highlands. Their youngest son, Andrew, is currently training to play basketball professionally in Europe. Calvin is preparing to be in the fire service, and Amber recently had her first child and will continue working in the Athletic office. When Mr. Smith isn’t in his office or in the school hallways and classrooms, he enjoys building things and photography. He shares, “Highlands has become a part of the fabric of our lives and a part of our family. I consider the students my family as well.”

 

 

 

 

Dawn.Utz

 

Mrs. Dawn Utz, HCA Elementary Principal, was born and raised in Uniontown, Ohio. She met her husband, Ryan, at Liberty University and came to teach at Highlands in 1987. Her two daughters, Brooke and Brianna, recently graduated from HCA and went on to follow the family tradition at Liberty. On weekends and breaks from school, Mrs. Utz is an avid fan of HGTV and home projects. Mrs. Utz is a teacher at heart, and her passion is the education of students. “Things get pretty quiet around here in the summertime,” she shares. “I look forward to seeing the bright smiles of all our students returning this August, and can’t wait to meet our new students, too!”

 

 

 

 

jim.good crCoach Jim Good, Athletics Director, grew up just outside of Pittsburgh in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. Jim and his wife, Eve, have four children: Jimmy, Jack, Jenifer, and Julia. The oldest three will be entering grades 7, 3, and 2 here at Highlands in August. Coach Good enjoys playing basketball and golf, and he loves being involved in all the aspects of his children’s lives. Coach Good’s passion at HCA is teaching his athletes to honor the Lord in all areas of life whether it be in the classroom, at home, or on the playing field. He shares, “I’m looking forward to next year and the opportunity once again to use the whole area of athletics to glorify God.”

 

 

 

 

 

Robin.PetersMrs. Robin Peters, HCA Preschool Director, was born in Kansas. She has three grown children: Shikira, Leslie, and Jacob. When Mrs. Peters isn’t teaching her K4 class or directing our preschool program, she spends her time playing with her granddaughter, reading, hiking, and just being outside appreciating nature. “I enjoy teaching and being with the children so it is always hard at the end of the year when they leave my class and the Preschool Department,” Mrs. Peters says. “By the end of July, however, I am already getting excited about my new children coming into Highlands Christian Academy and the experiences the new school year holds for all of us!”
