Back-to-School Information 2017-2018 (Updated August 9)

Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year!
Please read through this pertinent information for all HCA families preparing for the new school year! Updates will be made as information becomes available. As always, please call our main school office at 954-421-1747 with any questions.

School Uniform Information
Please note: For the 2017-2018 school year, all HCA uniforms will be from Jonathan Reed (with the “new” logo), and there will no longer be any cross-over uniforms from former companies. Variations to the uniform will not be allowed (including Dickies and other brands). Please contact the school office with any questions about this policy. Please also note that it is recommended that all K5 -12th grade students purchase at least one pair of uniform pants for cold weather use.

First Day of School – August 16, 2017
(Please note that VPK4 begins at 8:00 a.m. on August 21.)
Elementary School          Begins @ 8:00 a.m. / Dismissal @ 11:40 a.m. for K3, K5-2nd Grade / Dismissal @ 11:50 a.m. for 3rd-5th Grade
Junior High                       Begins at 8:30 a.m. in Fellowship Center / Dismissal at Noon / Bring pen or pencil and notebook on first day.
High School                      Begins at 9:00 a.m. in the Church Auditorium / Dismissal at Noon / Bring pen or pencil and notebook on first day.

First Timers
All students in K5 through 12th attending HCA for the first time must have a personal interview with an administrator. All new families must also have a meeting with the financial office. Please contact the school office to schedule these important conferences (which are separate from the tour process).

Please mark your calendars! Orientation nights are important, informative meetings that all parents need to attend. Each will meet in the Church Auditorium to start. Please refer to the school calendar for dates and times. These orientation nights are not intended for students. 

Regular School Hours
K3 Half Day           8:00 a.m. – 12 noon
VPK4 Half Day      8:00 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.
K5 – Grade 2         8:00 a.m. – 2:40 p.m.
Grades 3 – 5          8:00 a.m. – 2:50 p.m.
Grades 6 – 12        8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

All 7th grade students need to have Part A, B, or C of Immunization Form 680 completed before attending classes. This includes a Td booster. Also, K5 students must have the Hepatitis B series completed in order to attend school. Plan ahead and make your appointment now! Please note: The State of Florida requires that all preschool and kindergarten students have updated and current health exams and immunization forms in order to begin school.

High School Schedules
High school schedules will be sent out in early August. If you have questions or would like to change your schedule (except 7th hour), please note the dates and times listed below.

Senior Scheduling – August 14 @ 6:00 p.m. in the Cafeteria
Junior Scheduling – August 14 @ 7:00 p.m. in the Cafeteria
Sophomore Scheduling – August 15 @ 6:00 p.m. in HS Room 102
Freshmen Scheduling – August 15 @ 7:00 p.m. in HS Room 102

High School AP Calculus Students
Please note that students enrolled in AP Calculus will be required to purchase a graphing calculator. Since this is a substantial expense, we want to be sure you know this in advance.

Student Cell Phone Policy
Students will be encouraged to leave cell phones at home. For all students, preschool through 12th grade, there will be NO cell phones in class. If brought to school, they must be powered off and stored in backpacks/lockers. Specific policies will be given the first week of school.

SMART Tuition
We have had the opportunity to transition to a new tuition processing company called SMART Tuition. For your convenience, there will be new ways to make payments 24/7 and if you choose, through an app! We also now offer new payment options, so be sure to call Scott Lassen, Student Billing Director, at 954-421-1747 x1108 for questions about this SMART Tuition transition. To access your account 24 hours a day, please log on to KnightsNet, click on the Resource tab, and then click the SMART Tuition button.

Athletic Tryouts & Practices
JV and Varsity Girls Volleyball tryouts will begin Monday, July 31 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. and meet every day for the following 2 weeks. (Wednesday will be from 3:00-5:00 p.m.) This is for 9th-12th grade girls.

Tryouts for JH Volleyball, Elementary Volleyball, and Elementary Soccer: To Be Announced

Cross Country Conditioning is taking place on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 8:00 a.m. for boys and girls 6th-12th grades. First official practice will be Wednesday, August 16.

Please note that each athlete planning to try out for a sport must have an up-to-date physical and consent form on file for the 2017-2018 school year. Forms are available in the Athletic Office or on the HCA Athletic website. Florida Health and Chiropractic in Deerfield Beach will administer sports physicals for HCA athletes for $10. Call 954-570-7699 for details.

Athletic Participation Fees
For HCA student athletes, fees will be $100 for elementary, $150 for secondary, and $250 for international students. For home school student athletes, fees will be $200 for elementary and $300 for secondary. Participation fees are due September 15 for fall athletes; December 15 for winter athletes; and March 15 for spring athletes. If an athlete is a member of more than one team, he or she needs to pay only one fee. This fee should be paid through the school office.

Tell-a-Friend Program Details
A tuition discount of $300 for each new student enrolling in any grade (except VPK) will be given if a recommendation results in an enrollment. There is no limit to the number of discounts received. The enrolling family must be new to the school. A brother or sister of current students would not qualify. (If any family member previously attended HCA, they would not qualify.) The new family must indicate during enrollment the name of the family receiving the discount. If more than one family is listed as having referred, the discount will be split among the families. New students must be accepted and enrolled in school on or before September 1 and remain enrolled throughout the year.  All discounts will be tallied and applied to the November tuition statement. A “Tell-A-Friend Drawing” will be held in October. The school will award two families with a $1,000.00 tuition voucher for the school year. (Must be present to win.)
