On Saturday, September 21, ten students represented Highlands at the Florida All-State Chorus Musicianship and Sight Reading Exams. Students all over the state of Florida participate in this competitive audition process in the hopes of gaining entrance into one of the elite choruses. The audition has three components: the musicianship exam, sight reading exam, and vocal audition. Students are tested on music theory, discriminatory listening, vocabulary, phonation of pitch and rhythm, and vocal performance skills.
Upon acceptance, students have the opportunity to attend rehearsals under the direction of a distinguished conductor and perform at the Tampa Performing Arts Center in January. “It gives us great joy to announce that six students successfully passed the first two rounds and qualify for the final round, the vocal audition!” shares Mrs. Monika Colón, Highlands Upper School Choral Director. “Congratulations to Caroline Canning, Raegan Crawford, John Desa, Keely Feser, Kamiya Gonder, and Jaren Munoz for this accomplishment! These students will perform their vocal audition on Tuesday, October 15. We give God the glory for all He is doing in and through the lives of the students in the Highlands Music Department!”
