Meet the von Trapp children, some of our most-loved characters of the musical!

GG Michaud, Highlands junior, plays the role of Leisl von Trapp. Her favorite songs in the musical are Sixteen Going on Seventeen and The Reprise. What GG loves most about being in this musical is “all the family you make and the relationships you grow.” GG came to Highlands in K5 and has been in numerous musicals throughout the years including playing an oompa loompa in Willy Wonka, Diana in Anne of Green Gables, and Ursula in The Little Mermaid.

Ashlee Blackwell, Highlands tenth grader, plays the role of Louisa von Trapp. Her favorite scene in the musical is “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and what she loves most about being in this show is being with her friends. Ashley came to Highlands in 7th grade and last year played Mrs. Barry in Anne of Green Gables. She has learned through the musicals at Highlands that “we are strong together as a cast.”

Savannah Hicks, Highlands ninth grader, plays the role of Brigitta von Trapp. Her favorite scene is “Do Re Mi,” and what she loves most about the musical is all the siblings she gets to have in the von Trapp family. Savannah came to Highlands in 6th grade and has played Amaryllis in Music Man, Ruby in Anne of Green Gables, and a princess in Little Mermaid. Savannah says that what she’s learned most through being in these musicals is “to be confident in yourself and the talents God has given you.”

Landon Still, Highlands seventh grader, plays the role of Friedrich von Trapp. Landon’s favorite line in The Sound of Music is “Presents,” and what he loves most about being in this musical is talking with his friends during the practices. Landon came to Highlands in K4 and has been in several musicals including playing a child in Anne of Green Gables and Winward in Little Mermaid. Landon says that what he has learned most through being in the musicals is “the importance of corrective criticism and correction to do better in everything.”

Logan Austin, Highlands seventh grader, plays the role of Kurt von Trapp. His favorite song in the musical is “How Can Love Survive?” and what he loves most about being in The Sound of Music is being able to spend time with his friends. This is Logan’s first musical at Highlands, and he says he’s been learning that musicals are “a lot of work, and it’s fun.”

Sarabeth Canning*, Highlands fifth grader, plays the role of Marta von Trapp. Her favorite scene is the leapfrogging scene, and what she loves most about being in the musical is being up on stage and performing. This is Sarabeth’s first musical at Highlands, and she says what she has learned most through being in this show is that “I am worthy enough to be a lead.”

Peyton Smith*, Highlands third grader, also plays the role of Marta von Trapp. Her favorite scene in the musical is the ballroom scene, and she loves all the singing and dancing. Peyton came to Highlands in K4 and has performed in Music Man and Anne of Green Gables. Payten says that what she’s learned most through being in the musicals at Highlands is “teamwork.”

Yohanah Desa*, Highlands second grader, plays the role of Gretl von Trapp. Her favorite scene is when the children meet Maria, and what she loves most about this musical is that it’s sad and funny at the same time. The is Yohanah’s first musical, and she says she’s learning that “it takes a lot of work to act in front of everyone and to make everything perfect.”
