HCA Congratulates Alums Attending Medical School
Highlands Christian Academy is pleased to announce the educational plans of graduates Mateus Lima and Harielle Deshommes, both currently furthering their studies in medical school.
Mateus Lima, HCA Class of 2013, graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Miami in December 2016 where he studied Economics and Biology. He is now beginning his medical school education at Northwestern’s Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago.
Mateus shares that although he has three years to decide which specialty to pursue, right now he’s interested in orthopedic surgery. “My father is an orthopedic surgeon,” Mateus says, “so I’ve been exposed to the field a lot more than other fields in medicine.” Pictured is Mateus and his wife in front, then his parents, maternal grandparents, and his younger brother Vitor (HCA Class of 2015).
Harielle Deshommes, also from the Class of 2013, graduated from Florida Atlantic University in December 2016 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Neuroscience and Behavior. She is now attending Florida State University College of Medicine in Tallahassee.
“Before starting medical school my interests have been in anesthesiology,” Harielle shares. “But as a medical student, I plan to keep an open mind because of all the experiences I’ll have across various specialties. We’ll see what God calls me to do in the long run!”
HCA Secondary Principal Larry Smith reflects: “When Mateus and Harielle were students at HCA, they chose early in their career to take a serious approach toward their studies. They were goal-driven and motivated to achieve excellence in everything they did, even outside of academia. They were also genuinely nice, caring individuals who were interested in building relationships with others. It is not surprising to hear of their accomplishments over the past four years. HCA is proud of these 2013 alumni!”
