HCA Welcomes Mrs. Allen, Mrs. Canning, Mrs. Da Costa & Mrs. Good
Highlands Christian Academy and Grace Baptist Church are pleased to welcome several new faculty members for the 2017-2018 school year. Today, four of these educators are introduced with more teacher introductions coming this week!
Mrs. Amy Allen will be teaching secondary math this year. Amy grew up in Allegany, New York and earned her Bachelor’s Degree at Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio. She taught math for five years before moving to South Florida where she met her husband, Pastor Steve Allen, at Grace Baptist Church. Mrs. Allen taught HCA secondary math for seven years before taking a break to stay home and homeschool her growing family. Pastor Steve and Mrs. Allen have three children who will be HCA students this year: Erin (12th grade), Emilie (11th grade), and Jonathan (8th grade).
Mrs. Allen enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and playing the piano, especially on Sunday mornings at Grace. Excited about returning to teach at Highlands this year, she shares: “It’s like coming back home. I look forward to pouring myself into my students’ lives, both spiritually and academically.”
Mrs. Allen’s favorite Bible verse is Philippians 1:6: Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Jesus Christ.
Mrs. Angie Canning will be teaching 3rd grade this year. Angie grew up in Ohio and Kentucky. She attended Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri where she received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a minor in Missions. As a young elementary teacher at Highlands, Mrs. Canning met her husband Bill (HCA secondary English teacher). She taught at HCA for four years (2nd and 4th grade) before spending many years at home caring for and homeschooling her children.
Mr. and Mrs. Canning have three daughters who will be coming with them to school each day: Abigail (11th grade), Caroline (9th grade), and Sarabeth (5th grade). Mrs. Canning shares, “I am so excited that all five of us Cannings will be on the same campus this year! I am blessed to be back teaching in the classroom after homeschooling for nine years. I can’t wait to see what God has planned for me and my students.” She also enjoys cooking, working out, and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Canning’s favorite Bible verse is Isaiah 41:10: So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Mrs. Adriene Da Costa will be teaching K5 this year. Adriene is already loved in HCA elementary where she has worked for the past four years. Prior to that, she taught preschool in Lake Worth. Mrs. Da Costa shares how blessed she feels to be teaching and serving at Highlands, and to be a part of nurturing a new generation of Christ-followers.
Mrs. Da Costa grew up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Law before coming to the United States. She met her husband Cesar in Fort Lauderdale, and they have two children: Giovanna and Gregory.
Mrs. Da Costa’s favorite Bible passage is Psalm 121: I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you—the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
Mrs. Eve Good will be teaching elementary music this year. Eve grew up in Haines City, Florida and attended Clearwater Christian College in Clearwater, Florida where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and also met her husband Jim (HCA Athletics Director). Mrs. Good taught at HCA for seven years (K5 and elementary music), followed by several years at home with her young family. The Goods now have four children who will be students on the HCA campus each day: Jimmy (9th grade), Jack (5th grade), Jenifer (4th grade), and Julia (K4).
“I’m looking forward to teaching again at HCA,” Mrs. Good shares, “because I know this is what God has called me to do. I love teaching and kids and music, and I’m excited about sharing my love for music with our HCA students and helping them use music to glorify God in their lives.” Mrs. Good also sings on the worship team at Grace, enjoys shopping, and loves spending time with her family and friends.
Mrs. Good’s favorite Bible verse is 1 John 4:4: Greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world.
Welcome to the HCA family, Mrs. Allen, Mrs. Canning, Mrs. Da Costa, and Mrs. Good! We look forward to a wonderful new school year and are so thankful you’re here!
