Highlands Christian Academy Welcomes Dr. Steve Lawrence, New School Administrator
Grace Baptist Church and Highlands Christian Academy welcome Dr. Steve Lawrence, new School Administrator, and his wife, Mrs. Lisa Lawrence, to the school and ministries! Dr. Lawrence began his responsibilities on Monday, July 3.
As the son of a pastor, Dr. Lawrence grew up in Ohio, Missouri, and Michigan. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior at the age of five and surrendered to full-time ministry when he was fifteen. After graduating from a Christian high school, Steve earned a B.S. with a double major in Bible and Education at Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. He went on to earn an M.Ed. in School Administration from The University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. In 1997, he earned a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from The University of Southern Mississippi.
Dr. Lawrence began his School Administrator career in 1988 at Bible Baptist Christian School in Gulfport, Mississippi. While at BBC, he oversaw 50+ faculty and staff and 300+ students in grades Pre-K through 12. He oversaw building projects, including the addition of a second story to the educational building and the completion of a gymnasium and other remodeling projects. He developed and carried out a five-year and a ten-year plan for the school.
In 2000, God called Dr. Lawrence to Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri, to be the Assistant Academic Dean and the Chairman of the Church Ministries Department. While there, he developed and implemented a Discipleship and Mentoring Program and expanded Online Education for college students. As part of the mentor program, he took students to and was a presenter at Leadership Symposiums at the Air Force Academy in Colorado. Also in Springfield, he developed a Discipleship Ministry for Park Crest Baptist Church and was a teacher/mentor in the College Ministry of the church.
In 2003, Steve was called to be the School Administrator of Canyon Creek Christian Academy in Richardson, Texas. While at CCCA, he administrated 80+ faculty and staff and 600+ students from nursery to 12th grade. He oversaw negotiations and compliances of contracts and managed a multi-million dollar budget. His responsibilities in Christian schools also included developing Vision, Mission, and Purpose Statements for schools and developing and presenting at faculty and staff in-service programs.
Aside from being a school administrator, Dr. Lawrence’s ministry experience includes being a Christian school teacher and coach, Sunday School Superintendent, Youth Pastor, Assistant Pastor, Education Pastor, Assistant Academic Dean and Chairman of Church Ministries Department, and Senior Pastor.
In addition to his love for Christian ministry, Steve enjoys spending time with his family and going hunting and fishing. He and his wife Lisa have six children: Sarah, Jennifer, Sam, David, Elise, and Daniel. They also have six grandchildren: Calvin, Landry, Harvey, Walter, Scarlett, and Violet.
