“I loved the music that Liberty University band played. They used a wide variety or instruments that worked perfectly with the mood they wanted. Also, the balance was perfect, not too loud and not too soft.”  (See more HCA student impressions of the concert below.)

HCA Band Director Mr. Alberto Altamiranda, along with HCA’s junior high and high school bands, welcomed the Liberty University Wind Ensemble to a special chapel on March 14, 2017. The Liberty Wind Symphony is an instrumental ensemble comprised of advanced student players of woodwind, brass, and percussion. Their repertoire includes original and transcribed advanced wind symphony works from all eras.

The Liberty Wind Symphony made their stop at HCA while traveling on an extensive spring tour where they had the privilege of performing on multiple occasions at a variety of prestigious venues including concerts in Miami, Largo, and Palmetto, Florida, Savannah, Georgia and Statesville, North Carolina. After their spring tour they will be presenting a concert entitled “Monuments and Cathedrals” in the brand new Liberty University Grand Concert Hall of the School of Music.

Following the concert at HCA, Mr. Altamiranda asked his band students to write their impressions of the concert:

“The band sounded like a recording of extremely talented professional players. They articulated dynamics, crescendos, and accents. The music was intense and kept me guessing what was next. It left me with goose bumps!” – Danyel

“I absolutely loved the performance of the Liberty University Wind Symphony. The instruments blended perfectly, and I even felt like I was listening to the recorded sound of a movie score.” – Ryan

“I really enjoyed ‘The Angel in the Air’ when the clarinet players sang and other students used tubing and glass to create wind sounds. This combination gave the piece the ‘in the wind’ feel that I think they were going for. In ‘Rusty’ they had some woodwind on the stage and some brass in the balcony. This combination made it feel like you could hear the music amplified in all directions.” – Lor

“I thought the music was beautiful. I love the nature pictures that accompanied the songs. The last song was very dramatic.” – Samantha

“I loved the music that Liberty University band played. They used a wide variety or instruments that worked perfectly with the mood they wanted. Also, the balance was perfect, not too loud and not too soft.” – Thomas

“I think they were very professional. The piece called ‘Angels’ was my favorite because there was a lot of percussion. It was very enjoyable.” Adrian

“The concert was very beautiful and clear. The songs were exciting and long. I can wait until next time to hear them again!” – Raphael

“Thank you for spending your spring break to come perform at our school. It was a great performance.” – Taylor

“I loved it because it had a lot of peaceful and dramatic moments.” – David

“This performance was big and strong! They had giant pieces and it was wonderful.” – Isaac

“I liked how they were sometimes loud and other times soft. I also liked how they combined different songs into one.” – Daniel

“I liked that they were so advanced in their techniques. They all had their part and each did their part very well. During the performance I realized that I want to work hard with my instrument so I can be as good as them with I grow up.” – Jaden

“I liked it because everyone was in harmony. Everyone was on beat. It sounded beautiful. I enjoyed it so much.” – Layla

“The Liberty University band was amazing, enjoyable and an encouragement to me.” – Grace

“The performance was probably the best one I have ever heard in my life. It featured a variety of instruments and young men and women who did a fantastic job. They really reflected the Lord in their performance.” – Gabriel
