This afternoon, Colonel Gary West, US Air Force, visited HCA on his ride from the eastern-most point of the US, Lubec Maine, to Key West, Florida, raising awareness for families of slain soldiers. As Colonel West rode onto and through our campus towards junior high & high school chapel, elementary students gathered along the roadside outside their building to cheer him on!

Colonel West has made numerous stops along the way to have flag folding ceremonies for the families he is in contact with–and one of those stops this week was at HCA. In a special chapel, secondary students were challenged with some poignant history facts concerning our country being one nation under God. Students were also involved in a flag folding ceremony which included the National Anthem, a memorial and dedication reading, flag folding, and the playing of taps. Faculty noted that the students showed a high level of respect and admiration, and will long remember this meaningful time with Colonel West.
