SheinHighlands Christian Academy is pleased to congratulate Mrs. Leslie Shein on earning her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and on her promotion to the position of Elementary Assistant Principal.

“Mrs. Shein, graduate of Highlands Christian Academy and former 2nd grade teacher, has been providing effective support for Mrs. Utz and the elementary program for several years,” says Headmaster Ken Lopez. “We are confident that Mrs. Shein will be a blessing to the students, teachers, and families of the elementary program.”

Leslie Shein grew up in Pompano Beach and met her husband Blair at First Baptist Church of Pompano Beach. She followed him to HCA in junior high and became active in athletics and music. She continued on at Highlands through 12th grade, graduating with the Class of 1999.

Leslie’s favorite teacher was Mr. Kevin Snyder, and her favorite memory comes from psychology class. She shares, “One day in class, Coach Reg Cook was being taunted by a mouse, so using only a dry erase board eraser he nailed the mouse from across the room. It was amazing…that epic moment will be with me forever.”

Blair (Class of 1997) and Leslie were married in 2003, the same year Leslie earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Florida Atlantic University. That fall she returned to Highlands, her alma mater, and became a much-loved 2nd grade teacher. She taught for 4 years, followed by several years as a stay-at-home mom with her two children, Lily Kay and Corbin Mitchell. In 2012, Mrs. Shein returned to Highlands, this time working in the elementary office. This August she has transitioned into her new role of Elementary Assistant Principal.

Mrs. Dawn Utz, Elementary Principal, says Highlands is very blessed to have Mrs. Shein serving in the elementary department. “She has such a love and passion for our students and HCA families,” Mrs. Utz shares, “and most of all, a love and devotion to the Lord. Over the past several years, she has worked closely with our students, HCA families, and teachers. I am very proud of her hard work and commitment in completing her Master’s Degree. I look forward to her continuing to provide support for our school community in her new role as Elementary Assistant Principal.”

Mrs. Shein is excited to be a support to the HCA families and the faculty this year. “I am blessed to be able to focus on growth and continuous improvement in our elementary program while supporting Mrs. Utz and HCA in continuing to provide quality and challenging educational opportunities for our students. This school had such a tremendous impact on me and my family,” Mrs. Shein continues, “and I am so excited to be a part of that impact on future generations.”

The Shein children are both following in their parents’ footsteps as HCA students, with Lily in 4th grade this year and Corbin in 2nd grade. All 4 of the Sheins enjoy spending time playing games as a family. Leslie also loves to read and play volleyball with Blair.

Mrs. Shein loves the passage of Philippians 2:5-11, and especially verses 9-11: Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
