HCA Announces New Elementary Spanish Teacher, Mrs. Jackie Valdes
Mrs. Jackie Valdes has taught 2nd grade for 12 years, including the past 7 years at Highlands. But this year will be different. Elementary Principal Dawn Utz is delighted to announce that Mrs. Valdes has transitioned into the new role of teaching elementary Spanish. “Mrs. Valdes is a wonderful teacher who has had such a positive impact on her students and our school community,” Mrs. Utz shares. “It is such a blessing to have her continue being a part of our HCA faculty in this new position.”
Mrs. Valdes was born in Havana, Cuba where she spoke Spanish exclusively until the age of 9 when her family came to the United States. She says, “I love teaching at HCA because I love the families and the students. I have been able to build lasting friendships with some of the families of my students. I love the opportunity we have as teachers to talk to our students about God and to try to make a difference in their lives. Also, I have made great friendships with my co-workers, and I know I can count on them when I need them. God has blessed me to be able to spend the last 7 years at HCA.”
Mrs. Valdes attended Trinity International University where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She is married to Gustavo Valdes whom she met at church in Hialeah, Florida. They have two adult children, Michael and Abigail (HCA Class of 2014). Mrs. Valdes’ favorite Bible verse is Isaiah 40:31 – Those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength, they shall mount up on wings like eagles, they shall run and not grow weary, they shall walk and not be faint.
