HCA Athletics Completes Two Weeks of Basketball Camp
The HCA Summer Athletic Camps are in full swing, with the staff striving each day to train students to be better individuals as well as better athletes. So far this summer, HCA hosted their first-ever Gymnastics Camp as well as just completing two weeks of Basketball Camp.
HCA’s first basketball camp was held in 1986, led by Coach Reg Cook with 19 campers. The 2016 Basketball Camp ran from June 6-17, and included 40 elementary campers the first week and 60 junior high and high school campers the second week. The camp coaching staff included HCA basketball coaches Jim Good, Josh Good, Luke Still, Jeff Sullivan, John Wilson, HCA alumna Caris Everett–and our fabulous teens Kyle Lassen, Matt Veynovich, Erin Allen, and Danielle Domino.
HCA’s basketball program has a tradition of success, winning 15 District Championships and reaching the State Final Four twice. Our coaching staff encourages an attitude of teamwork and sportsmanship but more importantly glorifying God on and off the playing field. Basketball Camp began every morning with a message that gave an inspiring spiritual application for the day ahead. Throughout each day, campers were instructed in the fundamentals of the game, team and individual defense, ball handling, and shooting.
Camp highlights included one-on-one, two-on-two, free throw and hot shot competitions, Gatorade contests, five on-five scrimmages, and trophies. One event campers always enjoy is the free throw shooting competition. Congratulations to free throw champs Matt Veynovich, Bryce Everette, Pasha Szklany, and Camryn Stephens! Look for the video on the Highlands Christian Academy Facebook page for more secondary camper awards.
The HCA Athletics Department encourages parents to still sign up campers for Softball Camp, Track & Field Camp, Indoor Soccer Camp, Volleyball Camp, and Golf Camp. For more information, please click HERE.
