Mrs. Ratzlaff and Mrs. Brown Recognized By Deerfield Chamber of Commerce & HCA as Teachers of Year
Mrs. Shannon Ratzlaff and Mrs. Brittany Brown were recognized Thursday morning at the Deerfield Beach Chamber of Commerce breakfast as the high school and junior high teachers of the year. Also recognized were the teachers of the year from all the public and private schools in Deerfield Beach.
Mrs. Ratzlaff has been a much-loved history teacher at Highlands for 16 years. She is also part of the HCA Administration, coaches volleyball, produces the spring musical, coordinates the blood drives at HCA, sings in the Grace Baptist Church choir, and serves on the hospitality committee. When Shannon’s not at Highlands or Grace, she enjoys crafting and roasting coffee at home. She shares, “I love seeing students find something in history that they enjoy. I also love being involved in the students’ lives outside the classroom.” Shannon met her husband, Brock, at Highlands. He teaches Secondary Bible and American Government.
Mrs. Brown, one of Mrs. Ratzlaff’s former students, graduated from Highlands in 2005 and came back to teach Secondary English. Completing her second year on the HCA faculty, she also serves in the nursery and Awana program at Grace Baptist Church. She spends time off the HCA campus crafting, reading, and enjoying her family. “As a former student, and now HCA educator and parent, this school has been a trifold of importance in my spiritual and personal growth. As a student, I was enriched by the faculty at HCA; as an educator, I am encouraged daily by the godly administration and faculty I work alongside; and, as a parent, I am uplifted to see my daughter growing a heart for the Lord because of her instruction at school. I thank the Lord daily for my ability to serve and grow here at HCA!”
